
Following the deployment of Blue Star 2 on the Piraeus - Chania route, there has been an impressive traffic increase for the month of July, 2003, against the same month the previous year, by 43.12% in the passenger segment, by 42.8% in the private vehicle segment and by 33.4% in the freight unit segment.
In the month of July, Blue Star 2 carried 65,471 passengers, 9,523 private vehicles and 457 freight units to and from Piraeus, which correspond to 48.79% of the passenger traffic market, 46.28% of the private vehicle traffic market and 11.38% of the freight unit traffic market.
Blue Star Ferries is active on the Piraeus - Chania route with one vessel, ultra-modern newly built, Blue Star 2, delivered in 2000, at 28 knots/hour, against two car-passenger ferries and one cargo vessel deployed by ANEK Lines, namely Lissos, Lato and Aegean Glory.
It is worth noting that Blue Star 2 carried out 62 sailings or 40.79% of total sailings to and from Piraeus against 90 sailings or 59.21% of total sailings carried out by all three of ANEK Lines' vessels.
The deployment of Blue Star 2 and the provision of high quality services to the citizens of Crete and visitors to the island, highlights the potential for a further increase in commercial traffic on the Piraeus - Chania route.
