GL Establishes Customer Operations Service Team for Greek Ship Owners
Athens, 5 June 2008 – A newly established Customer Operations Service Team of Germanischer Lloyd experts supports Greek ship owners with their fleet in service and newbuilding activities. The group of Greek highly qualified marine engineers and naval architects will provide a range of engineering services from GL’s Piraeus location.
“With the introduction of this Customer Operations Service Team, GL further enhances the services offered to its Greek clients”, said Athanasios Reisopoulos, Area Manager Mediterranean / South Africa at Germanischer Lloyd’s Posidonia press conference today. GL recognizes the growing importance of Piraeus as a strategic Maritime Centre. “It is our goal to meet and solve the demands by of clients by prompt decision making locally.”
The service team will update owners on the impending IMO legislation, IACS requirements and current GL rules. The newly structured department will deal with class extensions and statutory matters such as liaising with Flag State administrations, arranging for inspections and surveys, client advisory service and support. In addition, the team will handle admissions to class. It has been fully operational since June 1, 2008.
