CLUSTER TEAMWORK
Remøy Shipping has signed a contract with Ulstein Verft for the building of two eco-friendly platform supply vessels (PSV) of ULSTEIN PX105 type designed by Ulstein Design with future oriented products and systems from Ulstein Elektro. The vessels are already set for long-term contracts with StatoilHydro upon completion.

"We are pleased to welcome yet another local ship owner to the Ulstein Group for designing and building vessels," says Ulstein Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein and continues:
" ULSTEIN PX105 has become a great success for the Ulstein Group. ULSTEIN X-BOW® vessels are fuel efficient and amongst other advantages they can maintain high speeds in rough seas.
The vessels will be delivered in February and May 2011.
CHOSE ULSTEIN
StatoilHydro announced earlier this year that Remøy Shipping had been awarded an eight-year contract with an option for four times one additional year for two PSVs with Ulstein Design equipment and design packages. Shipyard negotiations had not been concluded by the time Remøy and StatoilHydro agreed upon the deal, but Remøy Shipping is placing its trust in local players to have the ships ready for StatoilHydro by the contracted start date.
“We were considering yards in India, China, Singapore and Spain when Ulstein Verft entered the picture. The choice of Ulstein was based on an overall assessment, and we have great faith that Ulstein Verft will meet the delivery time. We have long-term owners and operators with a focus on investing in the best quality,” says Remøy Shipping CEO Per Gunnar Jarnes.
"We have experience in building this vessel type, and we have competent employees that are eager to deliver high quality products at set delivery time. By choosing Ulstein Verft, Remøy Shipping will get two vessels that they can rejoice at for many years to come, " says Ulstein Verft managing director Karsten Sævik .
NEW VERSION OF ULSTEIN PX105
A large number of the details in the newly developed ULSTEIN PX105 design are according to requirement specifications from StatoilHydro.
“We wanted to work with Ulstein Design in landing this contract. ULSTEIN X-BOW® ships represent something new and exciting and, together, we developed a design that met StatoilHydro’s requirements,” says Jarnes.
“The vessels are equipped with Mecmar’s exhaust system, which releases exhaust through the hull side, right over the water surface. Relocating the exhaust ducts has freed up space in the accommodation area, providing a virtually 360-degree view from the wheelhouse,” says Ulstein Design design manager Håvard Stave.
“The ships are also equipped with the newly developed CargoMaxx tank system. This is a state-of-the-art system that can load cuttings, dry bulk, mud, brine and fuel. The system is also prepared for oil protection and oil recovery operation (ORO),” he says.
The ULSTEIN PX105 design is 88.8 metres long and 19 metres wide, with a total output of 7600 eKW. The DP II vessels are also classified for standby rescue for 250 persons and have accommodations for a crew of 24.
The vessels will be equipped after the Ulstein Accommodation Standard and will have sophisticated technology from Ulstein Elektro – such as ULSTEIN IAS® , the new IP-based ULSTEIN COM® system and ULSTEIN NAV.
REMØY SHIPPING
Remøy Shipping currently has a fleet of six vessels for coast guard, seismic and offshore service. Statoil, now StatoilHydro, has been a customer of Remøy Shipping for 12 years, and Jarnes believes the long partnership and the choice of Ulstein designs are the reasons StatoilHydro has signed a new contract with Remøy. “The contract with StatoilHydro enables Remøy Shipping to boost its commitment to the offshore sector. Furthermore, our ships get a long lifetime, because we know we won’t get any better quality than what Ulstein delivers”, he says.
