Germanischer Lloyd at Subsea Asia

Kuala Lumpur, 11 June 2008 – The subsea industry is currently experiencing a record high – by exploring record depths. Advanced and innovate solutions and technologies are in high demand. Current projects, future prospects and latest inventions in subsea development are on the agenda at “Subsea Asia”, the conference and exhibition organized by industry body SUBSEA UK taking place in Kuala Lumpur from 11 to 13 June 2008. Global engineering consultancy Germanischer Lloyd (GL) seized the opportunity to present its portfolio of services and introduce the new member of GL Group: Trident Consultants.

Germanischer Lloyd is a well-known entity in the region. For more than twenty years GL’s Industrial Services have been operating in Malaysia. Top projects include verification or certification of projects run by Carigali Hess Operating Company, Talisman Energy Ltd. and Murphy Oil Co. – offshore projects in the South China Sea off the Malaysian Coast. GL’s regional network is getting active support from Advantica, the British engineering consultancy which joint GL in September 2007. Advantica concentrates on oil and gas installations and pipeline networks and is therefore an expert for risk and safety analyses, offering consulting services for installation design and the optimisation of operations.

“We are very client-oriented,” says Bruno Solinas, Germanischer Lloyd’s Regional Manager Asia. “We have more than 200 employees based in Kuala Lumpur.” With the acquisition of engineering consultancy Trident Consultants, the network was boosted by another 80 people. “Our Clients like to see the services delivered locally. In addition this will enhance the development of the next generation of consultants within our organisation,” Solinas explains. Not only the workforce but also the service portfolio was thus extended considerably.

The scope of Trident Consultants’ capabilities comprises application in areas such as oil & gas operation and production, petrochemical, utilities, and environmental sectors. The company specialises in the management of risks to operations and from operating systems to people, the environment, asset revenue and reputation. Services include technical risk management, process validation, flow assurance, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) and process troubleshooting. Its health, safety and environmental services cover the full range from health and safety auditing to development of detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments.

Around the world, Germanischer Lloyd’s Industrial Services offer third party certification and inspection, independent design verification, as well as risk-based inspections and condition surveys of production facilities both onshore and offshore. The holistic service offering is directed at owners and operators of complex plants and installations. Complemented by the British Advantica Group and Canadian PV Inspection, GL’s range of oil & gas services extends across the asset life cycle. With the additional expertise of Trident Consultants, Germanischer Lloyd will now be able to further extend its network and service portfolio especially in Southeast Asia.
