GL Opens New Liaison Office in Fuzhou

Shanghai, 18 July 2008 – The classification society Germanischer Lloyd has opened a new liaison office in Fuzhou to meet the increasing demand for classificatory services in that region. Operating from offices in Shanghai, Dalian, Jiangyin, Nanjing, Ningbo, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Qingdao, Yangzhou henceforth, GL offers regional customers in Fujian province its full range of services directly.

“We are very pleased with the growing number of GL clients in Fujian province. With our new presence in Fuzhou, we can work more closely together and provide our services especially in the newbuilding sector immediately”, said Pawel Maj, Liaison Office Manager at GL Fuzhou.

Today, five regional shipyards are building vessels according to GL rules. Container vessels, bulk carriers and tankers are currently under construction. For years, the classification society serves its clients in Fuzhou. Eleven surveyors are based permanently at the Fuzhou location.

Germanischer Lloyd Asia/Pacific offers the full range of maritime services which includes amongst others newbuilding supervision, fleet in service inspections as well as material and components certification. Shanghai is the location for the Country Office and the Area Office China, Plan Approval and Engineering Services East Asia and the Regional Office East Asia.
