Petrobras sets a new production record
3/7/2008
Petrobras set a new monthly oil production record in Brazil in June: 1,867,000 barrels per day (bpd). This mark was 12,600 bpd higher than the previous one, set in December, at 1,855,000 bpd. The new record is 4.2% above last year's average production (1,792,000 bpd) and 0.7% more than the previous month’s average (1,854,000 bpd).
This performance resulted, mainly, from new producer wells, interconnected to platforms P-52 and P-54 – installed in the Roncador field, in the Campos Basin – and to the Piranema platform, in the sea of Sergipe, going online. Additionally, new wells also kicked-off production in the Albacora, Albacora Leste, and Marlim fields, in the Campos Basin.
The record also derived from the good performance of the fields located in mature areas in Northern and Northeastern Brazil and in the State of Espírito Santo. With declining production in the past, these fields have reached significant operating upturns thanks to the revitalization efforts Petrobras has made.
More gas supply
In addition to the positive oil production performance, in the second quarter Petrobras achieved a surge of 8.6 million cubic meters per day in the gas it supplied to the market compared to a year ago. In total, 32.4 million cubic meters were supplied per day, up from 23.8 million cubic meters per day a year ago, a 36% increase.
This volume is the outcome of the good gas production performance in the field of Manati (BA) and of operations that were kicked-off for the projects the Gas Production Anticipation Plan (Plangás) called for, such as Phase II of Peroá, in Espírito Santo. Another highlight was the gas utilization anticipation at platforms P-52 and P-54, in the Roncador field, Campos Basin.
