23/9/2008

Petrobras regrets to inform there were four fatal victims in the fire that took place this morning (09/23) at the Furado Oil Treatment Station, located in the town of São Miguel dos Campos, Alagoas, 70 kilometers away from Maceió.

Victim family members are being supported by a team of social assistants from Petrobras and from the service-providers. Two workers had light injuries and have been released.

The accident was caused by an explosion in the natural gas piping. The fire was controlled by Petrobras’ fire brigade with support from the town’s fire department.

The region’s gas supply was not affected, since it is being compensated for by other company sources. The station normally processes 2,300 barrels of oil and 1 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The causes of the accident are under investigation.
