GL Opens New Office in Novorossiysk

Hamburg/Novorossiysk, 3 March 2009 - With the opening of a new site office in Novorossiysk, ship classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL) caters to the rising demand of classificatory services in Russia. "The port of Novorossiysk is Russia's largest Black Sea port and the largest commercial port in south Russia. With the new premises, Germanischer Lloyd is now present at all main ports in Russia", said Guido Försterling, Country Manager Russia of Germanischer Lloyd, at the opening ceremony. GL already operates offices in St Petersburg, Volgograd, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Vladivostok, and Kalinigrad.

Strategically based near the Novorossiysk commercial port, the new office enables even better services and is located closely to regional clients of the maritime industry; ship owner Novoship, among others, has its headquarters nextdoor to the new site office. "GL offers regional customers in Novorossiysk its full range of services directly", Försterling explains. "We will therefore be able to cut down reaction and processing time considerably." GL surveyor Valery Markelov will be in charge of the new office.

In Russia, Germanischer Lloyd employs nine experts serving the maritime industry. GL's service-portfolio includes the full range of services for ship owners from newbuilding surveillance to International Safety Management (ISM) and International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) audits. Multi purpose vessels and chemical tankers are currently being built with Germanischer Lloyd class in Russia.
