Hamburg Süd: Own agencies in Southern Italy and Egypt as of January 2009

Hamburg, 4 December 2008. With effect from 1 January 2009, Hamburg Süd will increase its presence in the Mediterranean by establishing own agencies in Southern Italy and Egypt.

The Hamburg Süd Agency South Italy (HSASI) is a joint venture between Hamburg Süd and the Gallozzi Group. The agency's head office will be located in Salerno. With the commencement of operations at HSASI, the former Costa Container Lines agents, Costamar, and the former Hamburg Süd agents, Joint Maritime Agencies, will cease to act for the shipping group in Southern Italy at the end of the year.

The new agency in Egypt will trade as Hamburg Süd Maritime Agencies Egypt. Headquartered in Alexandria, this is a joint venture between Hamburg Süd, Tabadol and Mesco. The partners have already collaborated for many years, as Tabadol and Mesco act as agents for Hamburg Süd and Costa Container Lines respectively.

With the establishment of proprietary agencies in Southern Italy and Egypt, all Hamburg Süd services can, with effect from 1 January 2009, be handled there via one contact instead of through two agencies as at present. This means shorter channels of communication and faster decision-making, to the advantage of our customers.
