Modified to Crane with Ground Power Supply
Cutting 80% of Operating Cost

November 11 , 2008

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES with president Yasuhiko Katoh) got an order from Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd. to modify two (2) units of container yard cranes “Transtainer®” in Kaohsiung Terminal to ground power supply type with cable reel and has recently completed the modification work.

The modification work includes an installation of cable reel for receiving ground electric power supply. By this modification, ground electricity is supplied commercially and the operating cost of the crane can be decreased by 80% compared with conventional crane with diesel engine and generator.

Most of the container yard cranes with rubber tires (Commonly known as Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes or simply RTG) under operation have engine-powered generator, and a demand for the modification of them to ground power supply type is increasing in the wake of sharp increase of oil price and of stricter environmental regulations.

MES, since its first delivery of quay container crane, “Portainer®” to Kobe Port in 1967 for the first time in Japan, has been designing and manufacturing cranes over 40 years and has delivered more than 1,000 units of “Transtainer®”, container yard crane.

MES will strengthen its sales promotion of “Hybrid Transtainer®”, an eco-friendly container crane, and is committed to aggressively carry out its business as a total system enterprise covering not only crane but also its maintenance/after service as well as sophisticated container terminal operation based upon its abundant delivery record of more than 100 CTMS*.

*CTMS (container terminal management system) a computer system necessary for management and operation of container terminal, in which stock management of container, arrangement of container in the yard and loading/unloading of container to/from the container carrier can be efficiently carried out
