New Policy Underwriter for Thomas Miller P&I

26 February 2009

Christopher Brown will lead underwriting policy for the UK Club with effect from 20th February 2009 in the new role of Director of Underwriting.

Christopher Brown, previously Claims Director in London, will be taking over from Hugo Wynn-Williams who has led underwriting policy as chief executive of Thomas Miller P&I Ltd. He is central to the claims analysis process that supports the Club's claims reserving activity. As part of this planned change in responsibilities, Mr Brown and Mr Wynn-Williams had worked closely together throughout the 2009 renewal to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

Hugo Wynn-Williams will maintain his responsibility for reinsurance and continue to represent the Club on the Group Reinsurance Sub-Committee in addition to continuing his other roles within the position of Chief Executive Officer of Thomas Miller P&I.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Brown said:

“The Club’s underwriting strategy is focused on one simple but essential objective - ensuring the correct premium for the risk.

Balanced underwriting, and the preservation of capital it supports, maintains confidence in the P&I system as a whole and facilitates the strong focused support our members expect in the year ahead.”

An economist who also practiced law in his native United States, Christopher Brown, 47, has extensive experience of P&I management. He spent 12 years with the Gard P&I Club, rising to head of claims. After joining Thomas Miller in 2002, Mr Brown was appointed Thomas Miller’s Asia Pacific Regional Director based in Hong Kong and responsible for providing services to all Miller’s managed Clubs, particularly the UK P&I, the TT, the UK Defence and ITIC.
