The award recognized ABS’ contribution to classification services in the Middle East region, where it has expanded its regional workforce and training capabilities to meet the needs of a diverse portfolio of clients. ABS has significantly increased its regional capabilities to address the rising environmental and performance challenges faced by the industry. Of the leading classification societies, ABS supports the largest presences with offices in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, and with nearly 100 marine and offshore surveyors and engineers. ABS Regional Vice President, Middle East Joe Brincat says, “We are honored to have been recognized by the judges as the Best Classification society in the region. The expanding ABS presence in the Middle East and Indian subcontinent, coupled with the launch of several innovation solutions across the organization, enhances our regional service delivery and helps clients navigate through evolving regulatory and operational pressures.” In 2012, ABS reached a major milestone with the opening of an expanded engineering office in Dubai to serve as a centralized resource in the Middle East. The opening of an office in Fujairah that same year further contributed to ABS’ regional expansion. Both openings have had a positive response from ABS clients, with single time zone capability for face-to-face meetings and a closer focus on both marine and offshore business. The award is the second given to ABS in the Middle East this year. The class society was recognized for its service delivery in the Middle East, winning the Marine BizTV Best Classification Society at the Sixth Annual International Maritime Awards, the third consecutive time the organization has received this recognition. About ABS Founded in 1862, ABS is a leading international classification society devoted to promoting the security of life, property and the marine environment through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.
