ANEK Lines, following an earlier statement, would like to inform that the evacuation of the vessel “Norman Atlantic” continues smoot hly and the operation is progressing at a good and steady pace with the co-operation of the vessel’s owner with the relevant authorities. During the early hours of the morning of the 28th December 2014, fire broke out on the Ro-Ro passenger vessel “Norman Atlantic” which is under Italian flag, owned by the Italian company "VISEMAR di Navigazione S.R.L." and chartered to ANEK Lines S.A.

The vessel was on the Patras - Igoumenitsa - An cona route, 35 miles north of Corfu, sailing in international waters with 422 passengers and 56 crew on board.

There is an evacuation operation under way with the help of the vessel's crew and owners in co-operation with Italian and Greek authorities. Our company will publish any new information, as and when it becomes available.
