$130 Million maritime success for BAE Systems

Installing a new anti ship missile defence system on Australia's Anzac Class Frigates

BAE Systems has secured $130 million in additional maritime work in two of its current projects.

The contracts include an additional $65 million for the Anti-Ship Missile Defence Follow On (ASMD FON) project and $65 million in equipment and all crew training for the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD).

The additional work to be undertaken on the ANZACs will be done at the Henderson shipyard in WA and includes:

• solid ballast installation
• enclosure of the quarter deck
• installation of a new solid waste management system
• incorporation of new high frequency broadband system
• upgrade from Link 11 to Anzac Multi-Link Upgrade Link 16 system
• replacement of existing fire alarm system
• replacement of extant gas turbine uptake exhaust system and
• installation of new gas bottle stowage to coincide with enclosure of quarter deck.

BAE Systems has also secured the delivery of all crew training for the LHD, primarily out of the Contractor Temporary Training Facility currently under construction at Mascot, NSW. The company has been tasked with procuring spares and equipage (loose items) for the two ships which, combined with the training, amount to additional revenue of $65 million.

Director Maritime Bill Saltzer said he was delighted with these important milestones for the business. “It reflects the effort of a committed and capable team.”

Mr Saltzer also acknowledged the enormous effort of employees completing the first LHD at Williamstown. “All four superstructure blocks are now on the LHD deck so work can proceed with the integration of combat and communication systems. This project and the additional work is a very pleasing end to a really positive year for our Maritime Business and will put us in a good position as we start 2013.”
