Update Alert - Severe Weather
Tuesday, 11 January 2011
MSQ has advised that the port will be closed to maritime traffic from 2359 tonight and all ships will be removed from the port berths. There is a possibility that various roads linking to and from the port could be cut due to flooding.
There is also the potential risk that the port will experience power loss, due to sub-station flooding or other force majeure from the flooding.
As a precautionary measure, we are asking all port businesses to consider sending home non-essential staff, and ceasing operations in accordance with their risk assessments.
A core group of PBPL security and operational staff will be located at Whyte Island and will continue to relay information as it comes to hand.
The situation will be re-assessed at first light tomorrow.
