Singapore, 23 May 2014 On 14 October, a shipnaming ceremony was held for the first two of ten Medium Range (MR) Product Tankers from SPP Shipyard in Korea. Named BW Egret and BW Falcon, these ships are at the leading edge in eco-ship design - high-spec, fuel-efficient models with strengthened hulls, increased cargo area, and in full compliance with many upcoming environmental regulations. BW Egret and BW Falcon will join eight other MRs currently on water, and will trade in the spot market. BW is one of the largest commercial owners of product tankers with a fleet size of 39 (on water and newbuildings). BW’s strong relations with customers allow us to maximise vessel utilization by strategically positioning our ships to take advantage of less-predictable route requirements arising through arbitrage opportunities, as well as longer haul clean product trading routes. With the delivery of these two vessels, we will be able to provide even better service to our customers.

BW became SPP’s biggest customer in May this year upon the acquisition of the newbuilding contracts from Metrostar. As usual, BW proceeded carefully. After conducting an exhaustive assessment of all MR specifications in the market, BW was reassured that we would be working with the best shipyard in the MR segment, and we look forward to the delivery of all ten quality MRs from SPP.
