Clipper Excelsior joins Clipper Supramax fleet
24-04-2014
On March 25, Clipper took delivery of the company’s second 66,000 supramax newbuilding, MV Clipper Excelsior, built by Mitsui Engineering at Tamano Shipyard in Japan. The vessel along with her sister vessel, the Clipper Excalibur, are the world's two largest supramax vessels.
Clipper Excelsior’s maiden voyage took her from Olongapo, Philippines to Singapore, carrying a full cargo of bulk sand. Currently she is performing a voyage with coal from Indonesia to India. This will bring her into a good position for the East Coast South America market.
Clipper Excelsior’s sister vessel, the MV Clipper Excalibur, has been trading since delivery in November 2013. With their great deadweight/draft ratio and impressively large hold cubics, these vessels are excellent for carrying heavy grains.
In addition to an efficient eco speed, high cargo capacity, and the economic long-distance ballast sailing possibility, Clipper Excelsior and Excalibur have the benefit of being geared with four 30 mt cranes and grabs.
