CMA CGM extends its reefer service for perishables between Morocco and South of France
15 Sep 2010
CMA CGM Group is pleased to announce the introduction of two new calls, Casablanca and Marseilles, on its service linking Morocco to Southern France, effective October 29th.
This service will deploy two vessels of a nominal capacity of 1,000 teu equipped with 250 reefer plugs, under the following rotation: Casablanca, Agadir, Port-Vendres, Marseilles, Barcelona, Valencia, Tangiers, and return to Casablanca.
With these two new calls, CMA CGM Group will:
• Optimize its coverage of the wholesale fruit and vegetable markets in Southern France,
• Respond to the growing demand coming from agricultural exporters in Northern Morocco thanks to the new call in Casablanca,
• Offer door-to-door service from the packaging facilities in Morocco to the different importers’ warehouses in Southern France,
• Provide an eco-friendlier maritime alternative to the transport of fruit and vegetables by road via Spain.
In order to facilitate the development of its customers on the fresh fruit and vegetable market from Morocco to Southern France, CMA CGM provides them with a highperformance reefer container fleet among the youngest in the market. To support the optimization of this service, the Group has invested in the purchase of 200 45 foot high-cube reefer containers with a storage capacity of 33 pallets, equivalent to the capacity of a reefer truck.
“With this new service, CMA CGM will be able to provide Moroccan exporters with a maritime alternative to road transportation for fresh fruit and vegetables going to Marseilles, the only coastal city where they are delivered by truck, proving once again CMA CGM’s unwavering commitment to customer needs” explains Philippe Borel, Vice-President Short Lines - North Africa Services, CMA CGM Group.
The new service will start its rotation in Marseilles with the departure of CMA CGM CASABLANCA on October 29th.
