New Record for Floating Dock Building

"GREEN DOCK IV", the 130,000T lifting capacity floating dock built in COSCO Dalian Shipyard, was delivered to Korean owner Samsung Heavy Industry (SHI) on the 9th of September. Mr. Yan Chengxiang, Deputy G. M. of the COSCO Shipyard Group and G. M. of COSCO Dalian Shipyard, and Mr. Dong Su Jung, Executive Vice President of Samsung Heavy Industry, jointly presented the delivery signing ceremony.

This 500,000 tonne floating dock is the fourth one to have been successfully built for SHI in this yard, and broke the floating dock tonnage record. It measures 449.2m in length, 84m in width, 23.5m in depth, and the construction involved the fabrication of more than 43,000T of steel structure, the installation of more than 1,100T of pipe work and in excess of 230,000m of cable and the painting of almost 690,000m2. The floating dock is large enough be used for the repair or building of ultra large crude carriers.

Since the Dalian yard independently designed and established the 70,000T lifting capacity floating dock (300,000 tonnes), six floating docks have been successfully completed thanks to a rapid improvement of capability and technology in dock building. This delivery ensures that COSCO Dalian Shipyard continues to take the lead in the Chinese floating dock building field.
