“The measures required to meet the new regulations affect many aspects of vessel design and operation and, managed correctly, they bring with them the opportunity for improved efficiency and reduced on-going running costs,” said Mr Angelo Tossio project manager of DNV’s Approval Centre Norway. The revised MARPOL Annex VI was approved by the International Maritime Organisation in October 2008 and enter into force 1 July 2010. The changes will be felt throughout the industry and will directly affect equipment manufacturers as well as owners and operators. The new brochure produced by DNV is titled “Regulation for the prevention of air pollution from ships – technical and operational implications” and is available in electronic form or printed on recycled paper.
