M/V LAGARFOSS malfunction in the steering gear

22.7.2015

Yesterday evening a malfunction occurred in the vessels steering gear on the vesselīs route to Reykjavik at the location abt 70 nautical miles south east of the Icelandic coast. Weather conditions were favourable and no danger to crew, cargo or the vessel under the circumstances. A decison was made to sign a contract with the Icelandic Coast Guard to assist M/V LAGARFOSS to her destination Reykjavik under her own power.

The Coast Guard vessel ÞOR is expected to meet M/V LAGARFOSS early morning 22nd July to assist. M/V LAGARFOSS eta Reykjavik is early morning on Thursday 23rd July.

During a recent guarantee dry-docking of the vessel in Hamburg the manufacturer of the steering gear decided to replace parts in the gear, which was upon their own decision making and demand. It is highly likely that the malfunction is the responsiblity of the gear manufacturer and entirely their responsibility.

Eimskip thanks the Icelandic Coast Guard for their assistance and not but least asks our customers to apologize for the unexpected delay of the vesselīs arrival to Reykjavik. Upon her arrival repairs will immediately commence and we hope she will be on schedule again without much delay.
