29 October 2024 On Friday October 25th, the second plug-in hybrid dry cargo vessel in the next-generation of Lake Vanern Max, was launched at Scheepswerf Ferus Smit BV in Westerbroek, Netherlands. The vessel was named Spiken, and the naming ceremony was performed by Godmother Susana Paulo accompanied by representatives from the yard, MF Shipping Group and Erik Thun Group. The Lake Vanern Max is a testament to our dedication to innovation and excellence. This vessel is not just another addition to our fleet; it represents a significant leap forward in maritime technology, addressing our clients' top priorities of fuel efficiency, electrical innovation, and maximum cargo capacity. This vessel features advanced electrical systems, including shore connection capability, allowing for clean, silent port operations. When docked, the Lake Vanern Max can shut down all engines, reducing emissions and noise-a valuable advantage for port communities and ecosystems. Additionally, its hybrid design ensures steady electrical power distribution, creating smoother, more reliable operations and reducing auxiliary engine runtime. By using green electricity, these innovations further contribute to lower CO₂ emissions. The Lake Vanern Max's design focuses on maximizing cargo capacity, enabling us to handle more within restricted waterways like Lake Vanern. The optimized bow design also allows the vessel to carry significantly more cargo with lower energy consumption. At Erik Thun Group, we understand that the maritime industry plays a crucial role in global trade and environmental stewardship. Our commitment to sustainability is unwavering and with this series we will continue to be a sustainable Swedish partner over generations.
