Fincantieri: “Majestic Princess” launched in Monfalcone

It is the first ship built by Fincantieri destined to the Chinese market

“Majestic Princess”, the third Royal Princess class unit built for the shipowner Princess Cruises, a brand of the Carnival Group, was launched today at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone. Interior fittings will now begin, leading the vessel to its delivery, scheduled in spring 2017.

The ceremony was attended for the shipowner by Keith Taylor, Executive Vice President of Fleet Operations of Holland America Group, a Carnival Group’s division controlling different brands including Princess Cruises, while Fincantieri was represented, among others, by Attilio Dapelo, director of the shipyard in Monfalcone. Godmother of the ceremony was Graziella Dussi Sagani, mother of the ship’s recent named master, Dino Sagani.

Built on the basis of the successful project of the “Royal Princess” and “Regal Princess” sister vessels, realized and delivered in the same shipyard respectively in 2013 and 2014, introducing a new generation of ships so well-received by the cruise passengers, the new unit at 145,000 gross tons will be able to accommodate 4,250 passengers on board. “Majestic Princess”, starring a new livery with Princess Cruises historic logo painted on both sides on the bow of the ship, will be the first unit specifically designed and built for the Chinese market, with a number of new venues on board expressly tailored for the Chinese passenger’s tastes and habits.

The vessel, as the sister ships, will represent a new technological benchmark in Europe and worldwide for its innovative layout, the outstanding performances and the top quality of its state-of-the-art technology. It will be the best proof that innovation and customer care are fundamental levers to stand out its market leadership and further consolidate Fincantieri’s historic partnership with the Carnival Group, the world's largest cruise ship operator.

Fincantieri has built 70 cruise ships since 1990 (of which 47 from 2002), 33 of which were built in the shipyard in Monfalcone, and other 14 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group's yards.
