GL expands portfolio in Malaysia

Trident Consultants now named Germanischer Lloyd

Global engineering consultancy Trident Consultants with its main office in Kuala Lumpur now trades as Germanischer Lloyd. The international technical assurance and consulting company Germanischer Lloyd (GL) had acquired Trident Consultants in May 2008. "The purchase has laid a foundation for GL in the consulting business, and has further strengthened its position in the oil and gas industry in the Asia Pacific region," says Bruno Solinas, GL's Executive Vice President for the Industrial Services in Asia / Pacific.

In September 2008, both companies had joined their offices in Kuala Lumpur. At the location in Menara Ambank now more than 300 engineering experts provide services to the oil and gas industry in Malaysia and South East Asia. "To strategically position Trident's service portfolio and to reach a wider market, the company will be trading as GL from now on," says Raza Amin, Managing Director of Trident Consultants. "Bringing the companies together under one name strengthens our position as a world class technical assurance and consulting company for the energy sector," Solinas is convinced.

For more than twenty years GL has been operating in Malaysia. Top projects include verification or certification of projects run by Carigali Hess Operating Company, Talisman Energy Ltd. and Murphy Oil Co. - offshore projects in the South China Sea off the Malaysian Coast. "Our clients like to see the services delivered locally. In addition, this will enhance the development of the next generation of consultants within our organisation," Solinas explains. Together with Trident Consultants not only the workforce but also the service portfolio was extended considerably.

The scope of Trident Consultants' capabilities comprises application in areas such as oil and gas operation and production, petrochemical, utilities, and environmental sectors. The company specialises in the management of risks to operations and from operating systems to people, the environment, asset revenue and reputation. Services include technical risk management, process validation, flow assurance, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) and process troubleshooting. Its health and safety services cover the full range from health and safety auditing to development of detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments.

Trident Consultants was formed in 1982 to provide consultancy in process engineering and safety to the onshore and offshore oil and gas and process industries. The company has a staff of 80 professional engineers and scientists working around the world, providing consultancy in the control of risks to people, the environment, assets, revenue and reputation arising out of the operation of engineered systems.
