Fleet Online: 100,000 Surveys Ordered

22. Oct. 2010 | [Group, Maritime] | 100,000 surveys have already been ordered through GL's fleet online tool. Fleet online is a web-based fleet management system to manage an entire fleet, including non GL-classed vessels. The tool provides an overview of a fleet's classification and statutory requirements. Fleet online is free of charge for GL customers.

The advantages of "fleet online" are plain to see. In just a few simple steps, this tool allows surveys to be planned, ordered, monitored and coordinated to best fit in with ship deployment schedules. It is possible to access the current status of the ships and the obligatory dates for class renewal and surveys.

Four weeks before a prescribed survey is overdue, for example, a message is automatically sent by e-mail giving notification of this date so that the shipowner can respond in enough time. It is also possible to customize this function. For example, one can change the interval and set that notifications should be sent when surveys are overdue and/or in case of prospective changes to the class status.

Shipowners and shipping companies can access the current positions of their ships online, allowing them to monitor their arrivals and departures more precisely and plan their deployment more exactly. This function also enables surveyors to plan their own schedules better. The ship's positions along with the IMO No., speed, course and port of destination are generated at the same time by the Automatic Identification System (AIS), which picks up this data in coastal areas. In this way, shipowners retain control over their fleets, irrespective of where, how often and when they want to call up this information.

New Functions
To ensure that fleet online provides as much value to customers as possible, the tool is improved constantly. With the new version, the following functions have been implemented:

1. Extended drydocking - marking
2. Additional Checklist for Safety Equipment survey for European flag state authorities is provided
3. Upgrade of the function "Survey status"
4. Enhancement of "Report Review" - Publishing of documents and reports
5. Ordering of Radio company - New Procedure
