Hempel celebrates a century of innovation and trusted solutions

10 September 2015

Leading world-wide marine coatings manufacturer Hempel has much to celebrate this year with 2015 marking its 100 Year Anniversary, and the company delivering a record net profit of EUR 71 million in 2014. To mark this continued success Hempel went one step further in July by launching a new brand identity, renewing its drive to offer complete coating solutions for its customers. The Helix, as Hempel’s new logo is known, symbolises the dynamic layers and motion of mixing coatings, and indicates the global, connected company Hempel has become. The new identity has been designed to confirm Hempel’s position as an innovative, progressive partner in coating solutions.

Pioneer Jørgen Christian Hempel founded the company in Denmark in 1915, with a vision to protect man-made structures from corrosion and fouling. He created a company truly driven by innovation that fully embraces modern science and technology and which developed the world’s first antifouling coating for ships’ hulls in 1917.

Today, Hempel is one of the fastest growing coatings companies worldwide and leads protective and antifouling technology. The company is committed to create products, which improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of seagoing vessels and other structures.

Hempel aims to continuously develop and deliver coatings that provide the optimum solution for all its customers’ activities, including meeting their environmental and regulatory obligations, listed below are some of Hempel’s latest products.

Hempel will be exhibiting at Shipping Efficiency: The Event, on stand no.22 in the Mountbatten Room (8 & 9 September), and at IMPA London, on stand no.60 (9 & 10 September) at the QEII Centre, Westminster, London.

Hempel has launched a range of innovative new marine products recently, which include:

HEMPAGUARD® - the award winning, original hull coating product that offers outstanding resistance to fouling during idle periods and significant fuel savings. HEMPAGUARD® was launched after a five-year development programme and is Hempel’s first product to use its proprietary ActiGuard® technology that integrates silicone-hydrogel and full diffusion control of biocides in a single coating. So confident is Hempel of its performance that the company offers the industry’s first performance satisfaction guarantee. HEMPAGUARD® has been applied as a full vessel coating to more than 350 full ships.

GLOBIC 8000 - a hydrolysing self-polishing antifouling product. It builds on proven GLOBIC technology to deliver premium performance at a reasonable price. It incorporates Hempel’s nano acrylate technology which delivers a fine polishing control mechanism to bring the integral biocides to the surface at a stable rate ensuring a clean hull.

DYNAMIC 8000 - extends the current DYNAMIC range utilising silylated acrylate technology to deliver an outstanding antifouling service at higher speeds.

HEMPADUR 15600 - a ground-breaking IMO PSPC cargo oil tank compliant, pure epoxy tank coating which is resistant to a range of chemicals. It delivers significant benefits not seen before in a single pure epoxy product such as its two-coat system, which reduces expensive application times. In addition, it offers more flexibility and savings to shipyards as it can be applied at a lower temperature and has a fast drying and recoating time, faster than any current available tank coating on the market.

HEMPADUR EASY 47700 - a pure epoxy “all seasons” primer designed for the marine maintenance market. It was developed in response to demands for a reliable, user friendly and flexible coating for use in dry-dock under all climate conditions. This new coating can be used on almost all vessel surfaces, above and below the waterline, and delivers high surface tolerance and reliability across the temperature scale. It can be used in most dry docks and at most times of the year.

HEMPADUR QUATTRO XO - a high performance range of pure epoxy PSPC compliant coatings for marine new-buildings. Although this coating was specifically developed for ballast water tanks in new vessels, it can also be used as a uni-primer for most vessel areas, above and below the waterline, providing high quality performance and peace of mind for customers.
