HMM Orders 4 Capesize Bulk Carriers from Hanjin Heavy Industries

On July 10th, HMM and Hanjin Heavy Industries entered into a Shipbuilding Contract for four Capesize bulk carriers in Pusan, Korea.

At the contract signing ceremony, HMM’s CEO C.K. Yoo, Hanjin Heavy Industries’ CEO Choi Seong-Mun and regional political leaders were present.

The four capesize bulk carriers will be 273m in height and 46m in width. The DWT (Deadweight tons) will reach 150,000 tonnage each.

The vessels will be delivered with a time gap between them; the first in 2015, and the remaining three in 2016. The vessels will deliver thermal coal from Australia and Canada to Korea for the KEPCO (Korean Electric Power Corporation) stable, including Korea Southern Power, Korea Western Power, Korea South-East Power, and Korea Midland Power. During the 15-18 year delivery period, HMM will earn approximately KRW 900 billion.
