2010-05-03

Hyundai Heavy Industries received a US$70 million order for diesel power plants from Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), April 30.

Hyundai Heavy will build the 70MW power plant at Bera, 170km northwest of the capital Dhaka. Once operational, the diesel power plant will produce enough electricity for 100,000 households.

Hyundai Heavy plans to start the construction of power plant in May 2010 and complete it by August 2011.

The power plant will consist of nine 8,000kW HiMSEN engines (Model: 18H32/40V).

This is the Hyundai Heavy’s first deal for power plants in Bangladesh. As an EPC contractor, the company provides engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning services for the plant.

Bangladesh plans to build additional power plants to meet electricity demand as the country experiences daily power shortfalls of 2,000 megawatts
