UPES INKS MOU WITH INDICO MARINE PVT. LTD.

WILL OFFER DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS FOR SHIPPING PROFESSIONALS WORLD-WIDE


Mumbai, December 1: University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES signed a MoU with Indico Marine Pvt. Ltd. (IMPL). Under this long term collaborative MOU both the organizations will market, promote & support the academic courses and programs offered by the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of UPES. The CCE of UPES offers executive programs through distance learning mode for the working professionals.

The MoU which was signed between Dr. Parag Diwan, Vice Chancellor, UPES and Capt. Sanjay Maan, Managing Director, IMPL, will be a vital development for the Seafarers, Shipping and Maritime professionals as the programs offered will provide opportunities of upgrading the professional qualifications to the employees of Port & Shipping Sector. It will also enhance the chances of professional development of these personnel in view of the government’s recently announced security clearances to develop more Port projects and Shipping Infrastructure.

The CCE of UPES and IMPL will draw its support from UPES which is India's first Energy University and Asia's first and only Energy & Core Sector University. UGC approved and NAAC accredited, UPES offers over 47 graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs to more than 5000 students in the high growth sectors of Oil & Gas, Power, Aviation, Shipping, Automobile, Infrastructure, Electronics, IT and Logistics & Supply Chain.

IMPL is a Shipping Company established in 2008 based at Navi Mumbai, in the business of Commercial Management of Vessels, Chartering, Ship-broking, Ship agency, Manning agency and Maritime Training and Education. With a Strong passion in Maritime Education and a presence in the Shipping field, IMPL will look forward to strengthen the current system of Maritime Education and Training with this MoU.

Both UPES and IMPL are ISO 9001:2008 Organizations and lay their focus on quality systems and procedures.

IMPL will initially promote the B. Sc. Maritime Studies (Lateral Entry) and MBA (Port and Shipping Management), B. Sc. + MBA in combination offered by CCE-UPES through Distance Learning Programs.

The B. Sc. Lateral Entry is a program offered to Seafarers who joined Sea after their 10+2 education and did not find time to complete their Graduation. This program is for Mariners world-wide.

MBA Port and Ship Management is program which will benefit the Shipping Professionals who are looking for a career ashore after their Sea career or for working Professionals who are working in the Industry and do not have the time to attend full time classes. This program is open to Graduates from any country who have work experience and looking forward for growth in the Maritime Industry.

The program will also benefit the Defence personnel especially Indian Navy and Coast Guard who are looking for future career within the Maritime Industry.

Admissions are open every Semester starting Jan 2012.
