August 3, 2023 Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K"Line), charterer of the car carrier "Fremantle Highway" has received a report from the owner of the vessel that she was towed from the accident site to a safe anchorage on July31,11:30 (LOCAL TIME), 16km North of Schiermonnikog and Ameland.. According to the shipowner, salvors boarded the vessel on August 1, 9:00 (LOCAL TIME) and confirmed that the fire was extinguished.It was decided to tow the vessel to the port of Eemshaven, following which,an investigation into the cause of the accident will be conducted in cooperation with the authorities and relevant parties. Of the.2 personnel (Captain, Pilot) still in hospital, the pilot was discharged on August 2 (LOCAL TIME), while the Captain is being kept in hospital. As charterer of the vessel , we wish him a safe and swift recovery. As far as we are aware, there is no reported oil pollution due to this incident. Vessel information 1. ("K"Line), charterer of the car carrier "Fremantle Highway" reported that salvors arranged by the Owner continued their efforts to extinguish the fire and recover the situation under the command of Dutch coast guard. According to the owner, the fire and smoke was reduced and the temperature of the hull decreased in some places , she was towed from the accident site to a safe anchorage. It is understood from the shipowner and Dutch Authorities that the new site will be 16km North of Schiermonnikog and Ameland. Final location for towing has not yet confirmed. According to the Owners of "FREMANTLE HIGHWAY", 20 out of 22 personnel in hospital were discharged until July 30, with the exception of the Captain and Pilot who are being kept in hospital. Fire Incident on a Vehicle Carrier "Fremantle Highway" (2) July 29, 2023 Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.("K"Line), charterer of the car carrier "Fremantle Highway" reported that she caught fire during the night of July 25 (Local time), 27km off the Coast of the Netherlands, whilst enroute from Germany to Singapore and sadly one crew member lost his life. All our thoughts and sympathy go out to the family at this tragic time. As of July 28, 12:00(JST, according to the Owners of "FREMANTLE HIGHWAY", 22 out of 23 personnel on board (21 crew members, pilot and superintendent) who disembarked the vessel are presently in hospital.As charterer of the vessel , we wish for their safe and swift recovery. We understand that the Owner has ordered 3 salvage vessels to the site on July 27a.m. (Local Time) and salvors continue their efforts to extinguish the fire and recover the situation under the command of Dutch coast guard. ("K" Line) reports that the vehicle carrier "FREMANTLE HIGHWAY" which is chartered and operated by "K" Line suffered a fire on board off the coast of Netherlands during the night of July 25 (Local time) whilst enroute from Germany to Singapore. The Owners are currently trying to extinguish the fire in cooperation with local authorities and concerned parties and they will continue to endeavour to extinguish the fire and recover the situation as soon as possible. According to the Owners of "FREMANTLE HIGHWAY", all of the crew was evacuated but sadly one crew member lost his life. We would like to express our sadness in respect of this loss and our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
