Steel Cutting Ceremony of 12 Ton BP Pusher Tug

Steel Cutting Ceremony of 12 Ton Bollard Pull Pusher Tug being built for Pakistan Navy, was held at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works on 20th Jan. 2014. Vice Admiral Khawaja Ghazanfar Hussain HI(M), Commander Karachi (COMKAR) was Chief Guest. The ceremony was attended by high ranking officials / dignitaries from Pakistan Navy, Government Authorities and KS&EW.
The tug has 16.89 meter over all length with a gross tonnage of 63 tons. It is fitted with a robust fendering arrangement for all round tugging operations for submarines ships and crafts.
On the occasion, the honourable Chief Guest said securing contract for building of 3rd such tug in a span of 2 years, reflects full confidence of Pakistan Navy in the capability of Karachi Shipyard to indigenously build a quality tug, meeting stringent requirements of the customer as well as the classification society.
He appreciated that after successful delivery of 4th F 22P Frigate PNS ASLAT, KS&EW has recently commenced another maga project of construction of 17000 tons Fleet Tanker.
He assured that COMKAR command will continue to provide all support to Karachi Shipyard in its endeavours to become a major regional shipbuilding hub.
Earlier MD KS&EW, Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah SI(M) in his welcome address said that the steel cutting of this tug is being performed in advance of the contractual timeline and this project is the complete self sufficiency in construction activities, i.e. no technical assistance is being sought.
He further said that presently KS&EW is undertaking construction of 5 shipbuilding projects which includes 17000 Tons Fleet Tanker, two Fast Attack Missile Craft, one 32 tons bollard pull Tug (which is ready for delivery) and twenty two (22) bridge erection boats.
He thanked MoDP specially Naval Headquarters for their continued patronage by awarding such important projects. He highlighted that various construction projects with KPT are under negotiation.
On General Engineering side KS&EW has re-launched itself in heavy engineering industry and focussing on sugar, oil and heavy transport sector while Ship Repair Division is rendering valuable services of docking and repairs to PN fleet, port authorise as well as foreign ships and repair / refit of 21 vessels were undertaken during last year.
