The series will also focus on the human side of the Triple-E's development and zoom in on the lives of some of the people involved with the ship including the naval architect, members of the site team supervising the build and the Captain as he trains for his new role and eventually sails the first Triple-E out on its maiden voyage. "Discovery always delivers a unique and exclusive perspective on the world's most ambitious engineering projects and the building of the world's largest ship is no exception. The Triple-E's scale is unprecedented and we're glad our audience will be able watch these mighty ships being built, and launched, on Discovery." Dan Korn, SVP and Head of Programming at Discovery Networks, West Europe. Produced by Windfall Films "The World's Largest Ship" will air on Discovery Channel in November of 2013. For the latest information, please visit the brand new website, www.worldslargestship.com, where you can watch a time lapse video of the building of the Triple-E. The video consists of 50,000 photos taken over 3 months. The 20 ships are called the 'Triple-E' class for the three main purposes behind their creation — economy of scale, energy efficiency and environmentally improved — the ships will set a new industry benchmark for size and fuel efficiency. Four-hundred metres long, 59 metres wide and 73 metres high, the Triple-E is the largest vessel of any type on the water today. Its 18,000 TEU (twenty-foot container) capacity is large enough to hold 111 million pairs of sneakers. The world's largest ship has its own website and it has been re-launched today, 18 March, with new content. On the Triple-E site, www.worldslargestship.com: A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, press release |
