This demonstrational operation will be carried out by converting the latest and proven electronically controlled diesel engine, which is ordered to us, into the ME-GI engine temporarily. LNG is drawing attention nowadays as a new fuel for driving ships in terms of environment, and the ME-GI, which is the combination of gas injection technology and electronic control technology, is also drawing attention as marine propulsion engine. MES completed a generating plant with slow-speed gas injection diesel engine (GIDE) in its Chiba Works in 1994 and started power generating business using slow-speed gas burning engine with an eye toward the application of such engine to the ships. Since then, we have accumulated a lot of operation knowhow for gas burning diesel engine. In July last year, we adopted ME-GI as the engine to our newly developed LNG carrier “Double Eco MAX” for the market to achieve 30% reduction of fuel cost and CO2 emission. The demonstration this time will prove our established integrated control system including a gas supply system for shop trial facility, and will contribute to our sales and production capability of ME-GI itself and of ships installed with ME-GI, to our customers.
