MOL LNG Carrier Rescues Castaways

Two survivors rescued off Indonesia in Makassar Strait

Tokyo - March 07, 2016


Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) today announced that on March 1, 2016, the MOL-operated LNG carrier SURYA AKI safely rescued two survivors about 75 km offshore of Indonesia. Details of the rescue follow:

• At 12:05 (all times in local time) on March 1, 2016, the SURYA AKI, sailing to Port of Bontang, Indonesia found two drifting persons and immediately changed course to approach the castaways, and started rescue operations.

• At 12:46 of the same day, the survivors were safely rescued.

• At 18:15 of the same day, the survivors were turned over to a ship of the Indonesian authorities.
