Navig8 Chemical Tankers, a joint venture between the Navig8 Group and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, has booked the 25,000-dwt vessels at Kitanihon Shipbuilding. Atle Sebjornsen, managing director of Navig8 Chemical Tankers, confirms the order but declines to comment on the price. He says the company has “identified an opportunity in current historic low prices for modern design ships with favourable fuel economics, a relatively modest orderbook and a positive outlook in the sector”. The newbuildings are set for delivery in 2016 and 2017. The company has 18, 37,000-dwt IMO2 chemical tankers on order at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard for delivery next year. Navig8 Group press release |
