NOCC: Collision off Japan, Update 27 June 2013

Reference is made to the NOCC press releases distributed Monday 24 June and Tuesday 25 June 2013 regarding the accident involving the fishing vessel "Yujin Maru no. 7" and "NOCC Oceanic" Sunday 23 June.
We understand that the rescue operation for the missing captain from "Yujin Maru no. 7", Mr. Hiroshi Yoshizawa has been discontinued. We at Norwegian Car Carriers ASA would like to express our deepest sympathy with the family of Mr.Yoshizawa, and with his colleagues and crew.
The Japanese Coast Guard completed its investigations onboard "NOCC Oceanic" on 26 June, and, in full understanding with Japanese authorities, the vessel left the port of Sendai-Shiogama that same afternoon. NOCC Oceanic now continues on her voyage to the US East Coast.
The Captain and the 3rd officer of "NOCC Oceanic" remain in Sendai-Shiogama for further interviews by the Japanese Coast Guard. These interviews are expected to be completed shortly.
Paint samples taken by the Japan Coast Guard confirm that "NOCC Oceanic" and "Yujin Maru no. 7" did collide on Sunday 23 June. The collision took place some 300 km off the Japanese coast south / east of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture.
The investigations by the Japanese Coast Guard and Japanese Transportation Safety Board regarding the circumstances around the collision are still on-going. Norwegian Car Carriers ASA will continue to do its utmost to assist Japanese authorities in these investigations.
The NOCC Oceanic is a car carrier, with a capacity of 6,450 CEU which was built in 2012. It is registered in the Marshall Islands.

Norwegian Car Carriers ASA (NOCC) wishes to make an update to the statement following the accident off Japan 23 June 2013, involving a Japanese fishing vessel, and where efforts are under way to establish whether the NOCC owned vessel "NOCC Oceanic" was involved.
Reference is made to the NOCC press release distributed Monday 25 June 2013 regarding the accident involving the fishing vessel "Yujin Maru no. 7" Sunday 24 June 2013 off the Japanese coast south / east of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture.
We understand that the rescue operation for the missing crew member from "Yujin Maru no. 7" is still on-going. Norwegian Car Carriers ASA would like to express its deep concern for the well-being of the missing crew member and sincerely hopes the search will end well.
Following instructions from the Japanese Coast Guard, "NOCC Oceanic" arrived in the Japanese port of Sendai-Shiogama in the evening of 24 June, for investigations of possible involvement in the accident.
The Japanese Coast Guard commenced the investigations 25 June morning local time.
An inspection of the hull of "NOCC Oceanic" conducted this morning has revealed damage to the bow area of the vessel, indicating physical contact with an object. The investigations are on-going.
Norwegian Car Carriers ASA currently has a team present in Sendai-Shiogama to assist the Japanese authorities in the investigations.

NOCC: Possible collision with fishing vessel off Japan

Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) wishes to make the following statement regarding an accident off Japan 23 June 2013, involving a Japanese fishing vessel, and where efforts are under way to establish whether a NOCC vessel was involved.
NOCC has been informed by the Japanese Coast Guard that, on 23 June 10:15 hours (LT), the Japanese flagged fishing vessel "Yujin Maru no. 7" was hit by another vessel and broke in two, some 300 km off the Japanese coast south / east of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture.
The Japanese Coast Guard believes the "NOCC Oceanic" may have been involved in the collision, and has instructed the vessel to proceed to the nearest port, Sendai-Shiogama, for investigations, including a check of the hull.
According to the 2nd Regional Office of Japan Coast Guard, eight crew members were rescued by the sister ship "Yoshi Maru No.55" at 13:50 hours LT on the same day. Regrettably, we understand the Captain of "Yujin Maru no. 7" is still missing and that a rescue operation has been launched. We sincerely hope that the missing person will be found.
The master of "NOCC Oceanic" has not reported any indications that the vessel has been involved in such a collision. However, NOCC will of course contribute fully to the investigation. "NOCC Oceanic" is now underway to Sendai-Shiogama port, where she is due to arrive on Monday 21:00 hours LT.
A team representing NOCC, its insurance underwriters, technical manager are en route to Sendai-Shiogama to assist in this investigation.
