Harbour Krystal - 4rd update   -   7 March 2013

Harbour Krystal has entered and anchored in the port of Setubal, Portugal,
where a full assessment will be conducted.

Despite a detailed and determined search and rescue operation coordinated by the Portuguese authorities, our missing crew member has not been located. Authorities are continuing with a search and rescue operation today.

The vessel met with Portuguese authorities and pilotage officials this morning and obtained the final approval of the authorities necessary to enter the port of Setubal.

All cargo and bunker tanks remain intact and undamaged and there has been no pollution. The vessel is in a stable condition.

Harbour Krystal - 3rd update   -   7 March 2013

Harbour Krystal is currently heading towards port of Setubal under its own power.

Despite a detailed and determined search and rescue operation coordinated by the Portuguese authorities, our missing crew member has not been located. Authorities report that search and rescue will be resumed at daybreak.

Reports that the vessel has been refused entry into Portuguese waters are inaccurate. The vessel will rendezvous with Portuguese authorities and pilotage officials later this morning. Subject to favorable weather conditions and the final approval of the authorities, Harbour Krystal will then enter the port of Setubal or another Portuguese port in the vicinity where a full assessment will be conducted.

All cargo and bunker tanks remain intact and undamaged and there has been no pollution. The vessel is in a stable condition.

Harbour Krystal - 2nd update   -   6 March 2013

The fire onboard the vessel has been successfully extinguished.

All cargo tanks are intact, inerted and unaffected by the fire. There is no danger of pollution from either cargo or bunker fuel and the vessel's hull integrity is fully intact.

One member of crew remains unaccounted for and a full search and rescue operation, coordinated by the local authorities, remains our priority.

Discussions are ongoing with the Portuguese with regards to the next course of action. A Naval vessel will be in the vicinity shortly in order to better assess the situation. We would like to thank the Portuguese authorities for their prompt and professional assistance.

The vessel is carrying a cargo of light virgin naptha and was bound for Amsterdam at the time of the incident.

Harbour Krystal suffered an explosion   -   6 March 2013

Earlier this morning Harbour Krystal suffered an explosion on board whilst off the coast of Lisbon, Portugal.

One member of crew is currently unaccounted for and every effort is being made to ascertain his whereabouts. Local authorities are coordinating search and rescue operation.

A fire has broken out at the forecastle (bow) of the vessel, which is being tackled with the fire fighting equipment on board. All cargo tanks are at present intact and unaffected by the fire.

The Portuguese authorities have been notified of the incident and are preparing to provide assistance.

The vessel is carrying a cargo of light virgin naptha and was bound for Amsterdam at the time of the incident.
