Maltese-flagged tanker released by Somali pirates
08 January 2012
The Maltese-flagged tanker MV Olib G was released today for $3m, after almost a year and a half, according to the Somalia Report.
The vessel, with a crew of 18 – 15 Georgians and three Turks – was released after the ransom was dropped on the ship. The crew are said to be safe and healthy and the vessel is in good condition, according to one of the pirates.
MV Olib G was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden on September 8, 2010. Last October, the pirate gang released a video of the hostages and demanded $9 million for their release.
