Ciudad del Carmen, Camp. - 01/04/2015 Petróleos Mexicanos, with the support of the Ministry of the Navy, continues to extinguish the fire that broke out today on the Abkatun-A Permanente platform in the Bay of Campeche. Unfortunately, four workers have died: one of them worked for Pemex, a second one for the Cotemar company and two more that have not yet been identified. The incident has also left 16 injured (four workers from PEMEX and 12 from companies that provide services on the platform) who are being treated at PEMEX’s General Hospital in Ciudad del Carmen and at the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS); two of them are seriously injured and 14 suffered minor injuries. In total, 302 workers were evacuated from the platform. The CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos, Emilio Lozoya, led a meeting at the Regional Service Emergency Center in Paraiso, Tabasco, to oversee the accident response tasks and afterwards he flew over the platform, to verify that fire extinguish tasks are being carried out. As part of PEMEX's internal protocols, priority notice is being given to the families of the deceased and hospitalized workers. Specialized technicians of Petróleos Mexicanos are conducting, with the support of the National Agency for Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection of the Hydrocarbon Sector (ASEA, Agencia Nacional de Seguridad Industrial y de Protección al Medio Ambiente del Sector Hidrocarburos), the analysis of the cause of this accident.
