Rotterdam once again to receive Dutch crude oil
5 Jan 2011
Besides approximately 100 million tons of crude oil per vessel from Russia, the Middle East etc., since the end of November, Rotterdam has once again been receiving Dutch crude oil. This was when TAQA Energy reopened the Rhine field on the Dutch continental shelf. The field is currently producing approximately 3,500 barrels a day, amounting to about 180,000 tonnes per year – just over the amount that a Suezmax tanker can hold. The oil from the Rhine field will be transferred to tank storage in the Europoort area by pipeline.
The field came into production in 1985 and was closed again twelve years ago. TAQA (Abu Dhabi National Energy Co.) bought an interest of 38.7 % in the field four years ago. Other partners in the project are Dyas (45.69%), Oranje Nassau Energie (14.19%) and Wintershall North Sea (1.84%).
