Greek Prime Minister George A. Papandreou visited today Posidonia 2010, the world’s leading sea transportation event and stated the following:

“The shipping industry is the strength of the Greek nation, the leverage of our development and the power of our voice to the international community as expressed through Posidonia, this major international maritime forum. My government stands by this industry and is determined to take immediate measures such as the lifting of cabotage which will contribute to the further development of Greece’s tourism industry.

“This year’s Posidonia is yet another example of our capabilities as a nation,” said Mr Papandreou who added:

“I would also like to vehemently refute some malicious scenarios about the state of our national economy and confirm that Greece will achieve its fiscal targets thanks to the toil and sacrifices of our people.”

The Greek Premier was welcomed to the Hellenic Exhibition Centre by the Posidonia Director Theodore Vokos and toured the exhibition visiting many exhibitor stands and pavilions.

Posidonia 2010 is sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping, the Municipality of Piraeus, the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the Union of Greek Shipowners, the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee, the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association, the Association of Greek Passenger Shipping Companies and the Union of Marine Enterprises.
