Countries need to make a joint legal response to piracy, including through the possible establishment of an international tribunal.
Monday, May 4, 2009
Dmitry Medvedev made this statement at a meeting with Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika. The President said that the pirates’ countries of origin often do nothing to stop these crimes from taking place, and the international community therefore needs to come up with a consolidated legal response to the problem.
Mr Medvedev instructed the Prosecutor General to discuss with his colleagues in other countries the possible options for bringing pirates to justice.
