RS concluded agreement with RSA MA
27 February 2014
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has been authorised to carry out statutory surveys of ships flying the flag of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) and issue certificates stipulated by international agreements in the sphere of merchant marine to which the RSA is a part. A relevant agreement with the Maritime Administration of the RSA was concluded by RS in February 2014.
RSA is the 71 flag state for which RS has become a recognised organisation engaged in activities connected to the basic international instruments for merchant marine. RS is authorised to act on behalf of the RSA government within the framework of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) of the International Labour Organisation. As a result, today 39 states in total have authorised RS to discharge these functions.
For RS, the signing of an agreement with yet another IMO member means a further strengthening of its international standing of classification services and broadening the options for its customers to choose the flag state.
Reference: RS is actively implementing the policy of international cooperation development providing for interaction in a wide range of services in the sphere of merchant marine. Maritime administrations conclude agreements with RS based on the provisions of the IMO Resolutions A.739(18) ‘Guidelines for the Authorisation of Organisations Acting on Behalf of the Administration’ and A.789(19) ‘Specifications on the Survey and Certification Functions of Recognised Organisations Acting on Behalf of the Administration’. Conclusion of agreements with maritime administrations of flag states is a confirmation of the successful character of the RS work in the field of ship survey.
