STX Lorient has paid particular attention to the hydrodynamic optimization of the ship to reduce fuel consumption - one of the essential points in the client's economic model. "The projects team at our shipyard rallied into action with great efficiency to meet the challenge represented by such a highly specialized type of ship, rallying support from recognized experts in the dredging field to offer our client the best solution. Taking on this challenge has been possible thanks to close collaboration with STFMO from a very early stage", Jean Roche, Managing director of STX France, Lorient ASA declared. This contract will bring a workload of over 170,000 hours to STX staff and subcontractors. The design phase will be launched promptly and the first equipment orders are scheduled for this autumn. Construction will begin at the start of 2011 with delivery of the ship to STFMO scheduled for mid-2012. The ship is to be 84.10 meters long and 15.60 meters wide with 2,000m3 capacity and will operate all year round on the Atlantic seaboard at over 15 nautical miles (approximately 28km) from the coastline, regardless of weather conditions. The extraction of marine aggregates will be performed mainly on the Pilier and Charpentier concessions offshore Saint-Nazaire. The ship will be unloading its cargo at the dredging terminals in Montoir, Cheviré-aval and Rohu. The order book A patrol vessel OPV70 under construction for Raidco Marine International destined for the Royal Moroccan Navy. Delivery scheduled for end of 2010. Vision and expertise To design vessels for the future, adapting to suit requirements such as port configurations and to devise technical solutions to reduce emissions, use renewable energies and minimize the environmental impact of vessels. STX Lorient is well-positioned to take on such challenges. The Lanester shipyard designs and produces state-of-the-art vessels and is now a firmly established player on the eco-environmental passenger transport sector (electricity and LNG powered ferries), and on the renewable marine energies and OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessels) sectors. Examples of outstanding achievements STX Lorient works in close collaboration with the STX France teams presenting an outstanding capacity for innovation, setting it apart in its activity sector. Over the past five years, the Lanester shipyard has proved its flexibility, producing a wide range of innovative vessels which for the most part have become reference vessels in the marine environment: 2009: Ferries for Tide Sjø STX Lorient had no previous experience in mixed diesel-gas propulsion technology which represented an innovation and a real challenge for a vessel of this scale (50m). The site therefore called upon external specialists, delivering three vessels which are fully satisfactory for the ship owner and provide customers with the greatest comfort and enjoyment. 2006 and 2008: The "Bangor" and "Ile de Groix" roll-on roll-off ships STX Lorient was the only shipyard with the resources and capacity to produce a vessel meeting all the different specifications, such as the transport capacity required for Belle Ile, together with suitability for the much smaller port in the Ile de Groix. The Client is fully satisfied with this ship on account of its excellent quality and operating costs. 2003: The "Beautemps-Beaupré" hydrographic and oceanographic survey ship Delivered to the DGA (French General Delegation for Armament), this ship represents a reference in the field, both in France and worldwide. The STX shipyard in Lanester had no previous references except for the "Thalassa" that was built in a shipyard belonging to the same group (during the Leroux & Lotz era). It worked together with leading specialists (IFREMER and SHOM) to achieve this project. 2006: The "Anatife" tanker Again, with no previous references for this type of vessel, STX France, Lorient built a double-hull tanker with double propulsion, with an operability that is fully satisfactory for the client. With the same safety features as a super-tanker, it received "Total Vetting". 2005: The "Kogo" yacht With no previous yacht references within the group, STX Lorient set up a dedicated team of designers and construction supervisors. This luxury vessel won an award in Venice in the 2007 World Super Yachts Awards. STX Europe ASA |
