Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, has announced this afternoon that the efforts of the maritime salvage team succeeded in finding the body of the missing crew member of the sunken tugboat "FAHD" and recovering it. The body was then transported to Al-Ballah station where it was taken to the hospital by an ambulance so measures of hand over to the family can be completed.H.E. has pointed out that SCA divers have found the body in the sunken tugboat's accommodation cabin during their survey of the cabins of the sunken wreckage and the incident location at a depth of 24 m. through a number of consecutive diving groups.

Adm. Rabiee has sent a message of condolences on behalf of all the workers of the SCA and its affiliated companies to honour the martyr of duty, Chief Mechanic - El-Sayed Ali Mohamed Mousa, praying to God almighty to betow mercy and forgiveness upon him, to accept him among martyrs and to grant patience and solace to his family.

H.E. added that efforts of the SCA's maritime salvage team succeeded in rescuing 6 of the sunken tugboat's 7 crew members who were hospitalized to carry out the necessary checkups; 5 of whom were discharged yesterday while one remains under observation.It is also noteworthy that efforts to recover the sunken tugboat are still in progress simultaneously with the normal navigation traffic through the Canal in both directions.

Transit resumption of the north-bound convoy's remaining vessels via the Canal's eastern bypass at KM 51 (Canal marking). The recovering operation of the sunken tugboat is set to begin after the transit of the last vessel of the north-bound convoy.

Adm. Rabiee: "The sunken tugboat is located, and north-bound traffic will be resumed within the next few hours"

Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, has announced that the SCA's maritime salvage team has successfully located the sunken tugboat at km 51.300 (Canal marking). Its recovery and clearing of the waterway will commence within the next few hours. The announcement has been while following-up the salvage efforts from on board the SCA tugboat NABIL EL-HELALY at the incident location.

H.E. pointed out that traffic through the Canal is planned to resume immediately for the north-bound vessels via the bypass at km 61 (Canal marking). The safety of vessels' transit shall be maintained by using warning buoys that will surround the sunken tugboat's location until its recovery.

Adm. Rabiee has stressed that south-bound traffic through the Canal was not interrupted. The entire North convoy transited safely and were not affected by the incident, and as for the South convoy, traffic will go back to normal within two hours at most.

H.E. added that efforts of the maritime salvage team succeeded in rescuing 6 of the sunken tugboat crew members and they have been rushed to the hospital to carry out the necessary checkups where they were all reported to be stable. However, one crew members remains missing, but the search process is still ongoing.

Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, has announced today that maritime salvage operation to handle the collision incident between the oil tanker CHINAGAS LEGEND and FAHD, an SCA tugboat, is currently in progress. The incident which led to the sinking of the tugboat took place at km 51 (Canal marking) in Al-Ballah area.

H.E. stated that the incident happened during the transit of the tanker - that is sailing under the flag of Hong Kong - among the south convoy amid its journey from Singapore to the United States. The collision incident resulted in damage to the hull of the SCA tugboat, water flooding the vessel and its sinking eventually.

The tanker is 230 m. in length, with a beam of 36 m., a draft of 27 ft. and its gross tonnage is 52 thousand tons. It is currently anchored at Port-Said until incident-related measures are completed.

Adm. Rabiee added that the SCA maritime salvage team was immediately deployed to rescue the 7 members of the tugboat's crew and the salvage operations are still ongoing. Moreover, the SCA crane ENKAZ was also deployed to recover the tugboat wreckage. H.E. also mentioned that a detailed report about the cause of the incident and the condition of the crew members is currently being prepared.
