TT Club supports ratification of the Rotterdam Rules

TT Club CEO Charles Fenton said he supported the moves to create a uniform global regime, while recognizing that this would not benefit all members. He added, “Our position is that we welcome the harmonization, transparency and modernization of liability systems which the Rotterdam Rules is aimed at bringing. But this comes with a big caveat. We recognize that there are certain sectors where this will not be seen as a welcome development. As with any major piece of legislation, the transition period from old to new will be period of uncertainty.”

Mr. Fenton’s comments are in agreement with the UK Chamber of Shipping but leave the shipowners’ P&I clubs to comment on their own stand on the proposed legislation.
