Additionally, Ultrabulk also placed an order for one option one handysize bulker with Samjin Shipbuilding Industries in China. As was the case for the Japanese orders also these newbuildings will be of the new generation super ECO-type. These handysize bulkers of 36,000tdw size are scheduled for delivery in 2014. Similar to the new generation vessels from Japan also the Samjin built vessels will have such features and will be equipped with an electronic main engine as well as other equipment and systems which all together are expected to improve the fuel efficiency of the vessels by more than 15% and reduce the CO2 emissions correspondingly compared to similar sized handysize bulkers already delivered. “Quality vessels and reliability in the construction and delivery of the orders are cornerstones in our new building program. Having executed our due diligence process, we are convinced that we have found both in our contract with Samjin Shipbuilding” says Henrik Sleimann Petersen and continues “this is first newbuilding order that we have placed in China and we are quite happy with the result”. Per von Appen, Executive Vice President and Head of Handysize adds “with the combined orders in China and Japan, our new building fleet renewal program in the handysize segment is well underway, giving us the tonnage base for our long term ambitions in servicing our key clients within this segment”.
