Launching of Indian Frigate

A Solemn Ceremony of Launching of the first Frigate of the series being built at Shipyard Yantar, took place on 27.November 09.

The solemn ceremony involved many distinguished guests: mrs Radhika Lal Lokesh, Consul of Republic India in Saint Petersburg, mr. Surey Grewal, Naval Attache of Republic of India in Russia, mr. Felix Lapin, Head of Administration of Kaliningrad, Admiral Chirkov, Commander –in-chief of the Baltic fleet, representatives of Federal Agency for military-industrial cooperation, FSUE “Rosoboronexport” , Design and Industry Enterprises.

All the speakers mentioned in their addresses the great importance of this order for development of Russian-Indian cooperation, Russian Shipbuilding, Kaliningrad region and Shipyard Yantar. Igor Orlov, General Director of Shipyard, gave the following estimation of this event: “In spite of all difficulties we have done it!”. Not only shipyard’s workers but also their families attended the ceremony.

The fourth Frigate of the Project 11356 was named the “Teg” (Sabre). This name was declared by mrs Radhika Lal Lokesh, the ship’s Godmother from the Indian side. In accordance with Indian tradition she decorated the ship’s stem with flower garland and broke a coconut against it. Then the Russian Godmother broke against the stem a bottle of champagne. This double baptizing had become a signal for the Frigate launching. The launched Frigate was laid at JSC Shipyard Yantar on 27.July 2007. The ship will be delivered to the Customer in 2011.

Shipyard Yantar
