Fincantieri delivers the Multi-Purpose Support Vessel "Tritone" to the Italian Navy

Technology, versatility, and modular capacity for underwater operations

Fincantieri, through its Underwater Technology Hub, today delivered the multi-purpose support vessel "Tritone" to the Italian Navy at its Palermo shipyard. The vessel was designed to ensure maximum operational versatility, with specific reference to the underwater domain.

The delivery ceremony was attended by Vice Admiral Vincenzo Montanaro, Italian Navy Logistic Command, Vice Admiral Cristiano Nervi NAVARM Director, and Gabriele Maria Cafaro, Executive Vice President Underwater Fincantieri.

The extensive upgrade program undertaken on the "Tritone" at the Palermo shipyard has enhanced its operational capabilities and strengthened its integration with the Italian Navy's national command system. The modular design and flexible layout of spaces make it possible to accommodate, handle, power, and maintain a wide range of payloads - including unmanned aerial, surface, and underwater systems - ensuring rapid reconfiguration based on the missions to be carried out. This modular architecture represents a key enabling factor, not only in terms of versatility but also from a long-term perspective, allowing the adoption of the most up-to-date technological systems without having to modify the host platform, thereby ensuring a high degree of adaptability to emerging operational requirements.

The "Tritone" will also play a decisive role in supporting the definition of the requirements for any new vessels to be designed, namely the future Multi-Purpose Underwater Domain Surveillance Vessels (UPSDS), which will join the fleet starting from 2031. Through the numerous trials that it will conduct, the vessel will contribute to the development of key technological and operational solutions to address a domain - the underwater - that is becoming increasingly strategic for national security.

With this delivery, Fincantieri consolidates its role as an orchestrator of highly complex technologies, capable of operating seamlessly from the surface to the seabed, from hardware to software, and to develop modular, scalable, and interoperable solutions that strengthen the ability of the national defense system to respond to emerging challenges with speed, security, and an integrated approach.
