MINIMUM REQUIREMENTMENTS FOR MARINE PILOT BOAT
Our direct Clients are procuring a new pilot boat and/leasing a pilot boat. Please share with us your inventory of available pilot boats for immediate purchase and the ones available for short term lease.
We are looking for especially the engine and structure of build which must be Steel or Aluminum. We will prefer new build but open to a good boat of about 2-3years. The boat will be delivered at the Freeport of Monrovia, Liberia.
A pilot boat is used to transport maritime pilots between land and the ships they are piloting. The minimum requirements for a pilot boat can vary depending on the specific regulations of the country, but generally pilot boats must meet the following criteria:
Size and Stability: Must be of a size and design that ensures stability in high waves and rough seas. Typically range from 15 to 25 meters in length.
Power and Propulsion: Equipped with powerful reliable engines, often twin engines for redundancy and maneuverability.
Engine power - the engine power must be sufficient to ensure adequate speed and maneuverability. Suggest the power to be in the range of 500-1000hp.
But in this case the engine power can be at least 450Hp at the minimum. And recommend the twin screw propulsion system to be preferred than a single screw propulsion for redundancy. Here try to find the boat with engines whose spares can be easily found in local market. E. g caterpillar, Cummins, Volvo Penta and MTU.
At least need to have 2 generators.
Navigation and communication equipment like GPS, radar Radio (VHF), AIS
Safety: Life jackets
Rescue: Life raft, emergency signaling devices and other necessary rescue equipment, firefighting equipment (In this case the fire extinguishers)
The boat should be equipped with fire detection system.
Hull should have a sturdy, Seaworth design such as deep V or semi displacement hull to rough sea conditions. Must have good stability and be able to operate in various sea conditions.
Standard boat is between 10 m – 18.5 m.
Speed: Must be capable of reaching and maintaining a speed sufficient to catch up to and maneuver alongside moving vessels for timely pilot transfer, usually at least 15-25 knots.
Maneuverability: Must have excellent maneuverability to safely approach and depart from ships.
Safety Equipment: Equipped with life-saving appliances, fire-fighting equipment, and communication devices. This includes life jackets, life rafts, flares, radios, and possibly AIS (Automatic Identification System).
Boarding Equipment: Must have a safe and secure method for pilots to board and disembark from vessels, such as handrails, and good fenders around the boat.
Visibility: Must have good all-round visibility from the wheelhouse for safe navigation and pilot transfer.
Structural Integrity: Built to withstand harsh marine conditions, often reinforced, and constructed from durable materials like aluminum or steel to withstand frequent docking impact.
Note: Fiber is not an option
Comfort: Adequate shelter and seating for pilot and crew. Facilities for rest and possibly basic amenities for longer operations.
Compliance with Regulations: Must meet local and international maritime safety standards and regulations, which could include SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) requirements, and regulations set by local maritime authorities.
These requirements ensure that pilot boats can perform their crucial role in safely transporting maritime pilots to and from vessels, often in challenging conditions.
Local and international. The boat must comply with all relevant local and international regulations.
The boat may need to be certified by Local Maritime Authority but, specific requirements can vary depending on local regulation.
